Howard P. Guthrie, Sr.

Howard P. Guthrie, Sr., 87, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on February 27, 2026 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY.  Born on December 20, 1938 in Monroe, Michigan he was the son of the late James Guthrie and the late Mabel (Ankrom) (late Vernon) Hope and the husband of Valerie Anne (Villont) Guthrie.

Howard was employed for 25 years at Great Lakes Carbon later known as SGL, retiring in March of 2001.  He was a lifetime member of Town of Niagara Active Hose Volunteer Fire Company, where he held multiple positions for both on the line office and executive office.  Howard was currently a member of their exempts organization.  He enjoyed painting cars, painting pictures, model cars, swimming, racing, playing horseshoes and camping. 

In addition to his beloved wife, Howard is survived by children, Howard P. (Judy) Guthrie, Jr. and Lori (Art) Eberhart; grandchildren, Howard P. Guthrie III, Jennifer (Don) Hoyt, Anthony (Tabitha) Guthrie, Sam Guthrie, Michael Eberhart, Stephen (Kammi) Eberhart and Nicole (Nicholas) Faltisco; great-grandchildren, Trey, Peyton, Mia, Oliver, Rose, Allison, Natalie, Kiera, Juliana, Vance, Camden, William, Sienna, Isabella and Lilianna; sister, Margaret (James) Villont and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Besides his parents, he was predeceased by siblings, James Guthrie, Roger Guthrie, Nancy Guthrie, Wayne Guthrie and Gerald Guthrie.

All are welcome to gather for visitation on Thursday, March 5th, from 3-7 p.m., at the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME AND NIAGARA COUNTY CREMATION CARE, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (716-297-9007).  In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice.
